Working with Your Team and Your Client in Design to Create a Mock-Up Sketch and Mood Board and Keep the Theme – Preparation for Creating a Logo and Infographics-1
As a designer, you certainly want to keep your designs as original as possible and not copy others’ work or at the very least reference them. Nevertheless, it is a good idea to review what others have done on similar topics so that you know how and where you can improve your own artwork.
In your case, you want to make sure that you or your team can come up with a successful infographic. One member of the team may have done the research and you may be the designer, you would then need to consult with your client to ensure that you understand the process they want you to convey visually whether it be a chart or a graphic with many components.
A few more important things for the graphic designer to consider are as follows:
As mentioned earlier, knowing the eventual graphics colors and fonts is crucial for creating a rough sketch of a logo or infographic.
However, before you create a concept or mood board that will meet the client’s standards/styles and expectations, you need to discuss the budget and a timeline to create the artwork for the graphic. Refer to Figure 2-72.

Figure 2-72. Reviewing with the client a project time and when to sign off for approval
During this discovery phase, you need to determine who needs to sign off for final approval of the design and at what stages. To lessen any confusion, these are just some of the topics you need to discuss before you start a project with your client. This will assist you in keeping the project within the approved timeline.
For reference, I have supplied a basic checklist in the project folder. For your own project, use this as a starting point to review and/or modify as you work with your client. From the list you create, you can glean information on how to begin the process of creating a rough draft sketch of your graphic, also known as a wireframe. For your own project, you may also want to create a mood board with the client as well. Refer to the file Client Preparation Logo_infographic_Check List.docx. This text can be applied to logo creation and adapted for infographics as well.
